At Electricity North West we play a key role in making sure we keep phones charged, TVs streaming and 2.4 million homes warm for our 5 million customers. As the demand for electricity is set to double by 2050 our industry has some exciting challenges and important work ahead, so we’re looking for ambitious, aspiring individuals like you.
Our apprentice programme will set you up with the future skills needed to be an engineer and support us in delivering a vital service to our communities as we transition to a zero-carbon future. You’ll also be funded to continue your education by studying for a HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, giving you the opportunity to build an exciting career in an innovative and fast paced industry.

What opportunities are available?
We have apprenticeships available in the following:
Control Engineer - you will spend the majority of the three years apprenticeship learning about our network within our Control hub in Manchester, fully understanding how we manage the network in the North West to keep power flowing 24/7 365 days a year, as it evolves to facilitate the transition to a zero carbon future.
Design Engineer – you will learn all aspects of electrical network design and how designs meet commercial customers requirements. Working alongside our customers you will understand their needs considering innovation developments in the exciting zero-carbon future. You will be designing the networks that will underpin the electricity system for the next 50 years.
Project Engineer – you will be learning to manage the construction and installation of new projects, including our award winning innovation projects. This will include project managing activities ensuring projects are delivered on time, meeting customers, planning of resource and staying within the budget requirements. You will learn skills from lots of professionals from across our business. You will be constructing the networks of the future that will support electricity distribution in the North West for the next 50 years.
Operations Engineer – you will be keeping the power flowing across our network in the North West, ensuring our 5 million customers have electricity to their homes or businesses every day. We need our future engineers to help maintain and operate all of our equipment so we can keep the lights shining, our electrical gadgets charged and adapt to our customer’s needs, making sure our electricity network can manage the demand of supply for the next 50 years.
