Our selection process

We know this may be your first job interview (and even if it’s not!) this section will tell you a little more about what you can expect. Don't worry, it's not as scary as it sounds!

Remember at each stage of the process we will contact you by email to let you know how your application is progressing. Please be aware of any filters or firewalls that may prevent you from receiving emails: remember to check your spam or junk folders regularly otherwise you may miss out.

1. Let us know you are interested

Please complete our online form  and attach a copy of your CV . If you take a look here we provide some helpful advice on writing your CV. Try to include all your skills and experiences from team sports, to work experience. It helps us understand more about you.

We also need to know about your qualifications such as A levels or BTEC level 3 or ONC results. If you haven’t got these yet, that’s fine let us know what you are expecting to achieve (subject and grade).

Following your application, we'll contact you by email to let you know if you’ve been successful in progressing to the next stage or not.

If you have been unsuccessful in progressing further, sorry, due to the number of applications we receive we cannot provide detailed feedback at this stage.

2. Assessment Centre stage

We think you've got the right mix of skills and behaviours to join us, so at this stage we’ll ask you to come to our Training Academy and get involved in various activities, including team building and practical workshop exercises. For all of the activities we will provide you with the right equipment and any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the day and you will get the chance to meet the trainers and have a look around the workshop areas. It’s a great opportunity to see our training facilities too.

Part of the assessment will an interview, this helps us find out a little more about you. We will ask questions about your CV and how you have approached activities in the past. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and find out about us too!

If we do ask you to attend an assessment day, you’ll be asked to bring your original qualification certificates. If you have given predicted grades, we’ll ask to see your certificates once you receive your results and before you start working with us.

We will also ask for a valid passport or a full birth certificate and proof of your National Insurance number and your home address. This is to show us that you are legally allowed to work in the UK and it’s a legal requirement for us. This means we will need to see originals, so no photocopies please.

We’ll contact you to let you know the outcome of your assessment day and either offer you a place on our apprentice programme or provide you with feedback.

3. Offer

Congratulations, we want you to join our Apprenticeship programme! If you get to this stage, you’re already on your way to shaping the future of the energy industry.

You will receive a contract of employment and access to an online portal, so we can get you all set up on our systems. We'll ask for references covering the last three years of your education or employment history, you will need to attend a medical assessment to ensure you are fit and well. We will also ask you to complete a DBS check. (You can find more information on DBS checks here).

If you haven't already provided your original qualification certificates we will ask for them at this point.

What happens once I have got my offer?

Before you start with us we will invite you back to our Training Academy to meet your fellow apprentices who will be starting the training at the same time as you. You’ll try on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so we can order the right size, ready for when you start.

Once all your pre-employment checks are complete we will send you first day arrangements, so you know where to go and who to meet with.
